If it's a weapon you're not familiar with, it can be troublesome - and it's not a good match for this. Height and strength aside, the point of a lance is that it creates a sizeable amount of distance between you and the person trying to kill you, but that becomes moot if you're fighting someone with an igniter, or a crossbow. Or in this case, something that launches explosives.
